Story

My name is Steve. I suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage in December 2021 and whilst battling with that recovery I was diagnosed with the ultra-rare neuro degenerative disease Superficial Siderosis in May 2022.

Superficial Siderosis is so rare that there are only around 100 people in the UK and maybe 500 worldwide diagnosed with it. Unfortunately, there is no cure at the moment, and only one drug, Deferiprone, that has shown any success in slowing down the progression.

I will be running/jogging/walking the Adidas Manchester Marathon on the 14th April 2024 to raise awareness and funds for research into this condition, to help make the lives of everyone with it more manageable, and hopefully to find a cure.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story, any donation will make the world of difference, no matter how small.

There is only one charity in the UK for Superficial Siderosis - The Silent Bleed - so all the money I raise is going to them. Their link is below: -
