Story

A massive thank you to all who helped to raise over £1,000 to help fund the relocation of our War Memorial, to bring it into the heart of the village.

' TO BRING OUR LADS HOME'

I have successfully done a tandem Skydive on Saturday 15th March 2025 at Tilstock Airfield near Shrewsbury, at midday.

Our Staunton on Wye War Memorial Project

At present, the memorial's current site is wholly unsuitable for holding a memorable service to the 'lads', either in terms of 'remembrance' or 'reflection', without the intrusive noise of 21st century traffic on one of the main arterial routes between England and Wales. Also, traffic pollution and the vibration from the sheer tonnage that passes the site daily, is cause for concern.

The project :~ to move the Staunton on Wye War Memorial from its current position on the main A438, to Doctors Pool, which is in the heart of the village, opposite the primary school.

We have now been granted all necessary permissions to move and relocate the memorial to its new position.

The movement, cleaning and reconstruction will be carried out by an experienced company of Stone Masons. The quote we have from them is just under £13,000. We estimate the site clearance, landscaping and aggregates will cost approximately £12,000. This gives us a Total Project Cost of around £25,000.

Starting on the 14th April the stone masons will be dismantling the memorial, removing it from its existing location and after clearing the site will set up the memorial in its new location which should be completed by the 25th April.
