Station to Station Run 2023
11.03.23
John Teatheredge, our beloved grandfather and stepfather, was passionate about water safety.
That’s why on the 11th of March we will be holding a 19 mile run in his memory.
The cross country run starts at Walton RNLI station and hugging the coast it reaches the sea wall finishing at Harwich RNLI station.
We are hoping to keep going with the RNLIs fundraising appeal in memory of John, to support the next generation of lifesaving in Harwich with this run!
This is the second year of holding this run, and we hope for it to become a permanent fixture in the Essex running events calendar.
John was only 17 years old when in 1977 he turned up at Harwich RNLI station to volunteer.
John took the role very seriously, and volunteered many hours to protect lives out on the water. Over the years he saved 427 lives and rescued countless others out at sea.
In 2003, John became second coxswain, and dedicated 44 of his 63 years to the charity, until his untimely death on Boxing Day 2020 following complications after surgery.
John worked selflessly and tirelessly to help complete strangers in need. The time of day or night did not matter to John, he would always answer the call for help.
To his family, John was a wonderful father, stepfather and grandfather, by holding this run we hope to honour his memory and raise funds for an important cause.
Running together we keep John’s memory alive and raise vital money for the RNLI.
