The Spark! Book Awards will enable children to decide their favourite new book in three categories and to hear from the authors. It is an event taking place in Kingston and Richmond over the next six months
Schools can provide some access to these books but money is tight. Parents, who can, are often likely to wish to purchase the shortlisted titles for their children but this will not be possible in many homes. This fund will enable us to provide additional copies of the books for disadvantaged children in Spark! schools to read, and keep and to ensure that they too feel part of this initiative across our two boroughs.
We have set our target at £2000 but the more money we raise the more children we can reach and build their enthusiasm for reading - which will be, for many, a key to further academic success.
Over sixty schools have signed up to be part of these awards and we want to help them to help pupils with the gift of a book and the opportunity to feel part of this borough wide community event.
