My 2 year-old daughter is profoundly deaf in one ear and has a fluctuating hearing loss in the other, and therefore struggles to communicate in noisy environments, finding it frustrating and upsetting.

She goes to a wonderful nursery in Chipping Sodbury but it is in a room with extremely high ceilings which means that due to the bad acoustics, children with speech, language and communication difficulties have to try so much harder to interact and engage than the other children in their peer group.

Currently, there is a large percentage of children at the setting (approximately 30%) who need extra support with their communication and language development. The nursery tries very hard to ensure that it can adapt the environment to meet every child’s needs, and has been particularly accommodating to our daughter's hearing support needs.

However, a recent acoustic survey carried out in the room showed that the learning/listening environment could be vastly improved by installing some ‘sound clouds’ to absorb some of the noises and sounds. To bring the reverberation times to an acceptable level the nursery would need to purchase a total of 16 Suspended Sound Clouds, costing around £4,600 (including installation and VAT).

We would be so grateful if you would consider contributing to the cost of this fantastic resource to help not only the current children of the nursery, but for future children too.
