Story
What would you do if you discovered at short notice that money you thought you’d be living on for the next six years was under lock and key? Could you live on your savings? Could you work, even though your health was poor or you were in pain? Would you be able to find work that was suitable for you … and would you do it if it meant that you could no longer care for a loved one?
This is the position that many women born in the 1950s have found themselves in following two increases to their State Pension Age (SPA), increases that moved their SPA from 60 to as much as 66. Most of them only found out when they were about 58 years old, leaving them very little time to make plans to cope with the nightmare that was headed their way.
And it really is a nightmare for some. These are the women who have to choose between heating and eating. Who, after a lifetime of work and often with 40+ years worth of NICs, are finding that they do not qualify for any benefits or, if they do, live in a constant state of fear and anxiety at the thought of work programmes or fit-to-work assessments. These are the women who know what it’s like to have to live for a week with no money. These are the women brought so low that they don’t know if they can go on any more.
The government knows of their plight but refuses to help them. But while the government may be able to turn a deaf ear and blind eye we at WASPI Voice cannot. In addition to campaigning for justice we do what we can to keep women in crisis afloat. But with each passing day the problem gets bigger. More women exhaust their savings, more succumb to illness, some find themselves alone.
That’s why we have started this crowd funding page. We believe in the British sense of fair play and have faith in the public's generosity. We know everyone’s finding the going tough these days but we can assure you that even a small donation will be most gratefully received and put to good use. Thank-you.

8 years agoWe would like to thank all those who donated to our SOS appeal - your support is greatly appreciated. In addition to the figure shown on this page, we received some late cheques (shown below) as well as donations made by transfer into the SOS bank account. These bring the final amount raised to £4,522.50 (net of charges). We can and will do good with the SOS fund, bringing a bit of relief and light into the lives of many Waspi women who are struggling to make ends meet. Thank-you all once again.
