Sophie Mae Carter, a pupil of Ganton Secondary School Hull, has been selected to represent Team GB at the next Special Olympic World Games Abu Dhabi in 2019! This is a massive achievement as team GB consists of just 8 swimmers and all her fellow athletes and coaches of the are so proud of her.

Sophie has been an active and valued member of Special Olympics City of Hull Team since she was eight years old. She also trains weekly with Hull Optimists and Kingston Upon Hull Swimming Clubs. To say she is passionate about swimming is an understatement and she never misses any of her training sessions. She has represented City of Hull at the National British disability swimming galas for the last 4 years. She was an outstanding team member for the club last summer at the national Special Olympic Summer games in Sheffield where she achieved 2 Personal Bests and a silver medal in her individual events and was part of a gold medal winning relay team. It’s not just her swimming ability that makes Sophie such a valued member of our club but also her dedication, sportsmanship and lively bubbly friendly disposition.
