Story

On July 9th, we’re holding an evening of music of all kinds, poetry and chat called Songs for Belarus in London’s Lauderdale House. We’re trying to raise money to help children whose parents have been caught up in the strife in Belarus since 2020.

Any money we raise will go to BYSOL’s fund for the children of the thousands of political prisoners, who have been left without a parent, and often even basic funds.

BYSOL is trying to give the children whose lives have been blighted moments of joy. Funds raised will go to :

• help organize summer vacations, excursions, trips, travel, summer children's camps ,

• Educational circles on chess, drawing, etc.;

• Sports sections: swimming pool, tennis, soccer.

• Equipment for games: balls, sneakers, games, scooter, bike, rollers, brushes, wadding

Let’s support these unfortunate children - it will make a real difference

Alena Maushuk from Pinsk has five children, Tatsiana Kaneuskaya from Homel has four. The women ended up behind bars on charges of riots under Article 293 of the Criminal Code. Human rights activists consider the accusations unfounded and politically motivated. Two of Alena’s children are minors. Ten-year-old Anhelina was taken to the orphanage right from school in early September, the girl is still there. The youngest Maushuk child is five years old, he is now staying with his father.

Palina Sharenda-Panasiuk, an activist from Brest, a mother of two children under 18, she was sentenced to 3 years in penal colony. For her principles position and for expressing dissent against the injustice and violence in prison, she is often placed in the inhumane conditions of a punitive confinement. Over the last 10 months, she spent there 180 days, tortured by cold, deprivation of sleep, antisanitary conditions and constant humiliation. Her husband was placed under house arrest.

For her son’s 14th birthday, she sent a letter from prison, saying

I can’t give you a physical present, so I’m giving you a Word.”
