Story

Somebody's Dad is a community interest company that will provide counselling to men who are living without their children. This may be through the loss of a child or the breakdown of a relationship. Somebody's Dad aims to improve the mental wellbeing of these men by offering a one to one counselling service.

In order to raise and awareness of the service and funding, I will be walking One Million Steps by the end this year, starting from 1st November 2023. The funds gained from this will go to Somebody's Dad CIC.

From speaking to men affected by this loss, they are suffering from mental health conditions including depression, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, PTSD and addiction so this service will endeavour to help them overcome their issues.

Receiving counselling and addressing mental health issues still has a big stigma attached for many, especially men. Part of this service will be looking at ways to encourage men to seek help. Already, we plan on offering walking/outdoor therapy as this seems to be a more acceptable way from men to come to counselling. This is one of the reasons why walking a million steps seems to be an obvious choice for fundraising.
