    Story

NorREN, a group of Sri Lanka born scientists and professionals spread round the world, is sponsoring a second FPV Project in Killinochi in the North of Sri Lanka.

The group's mission is to promote clean energy projects to assist people in the North and East of Sri Lanka to achieve energy independence. Its outreach work encourages rural communities to become aware of clean energy and energy independence.

This is second such project and this has multi-layered aims benefitting a University in the Northern Sri Lanka as well as providing opportunity for Renewable Energy Research Collaboration and also improving the take up of STEM subjects by rural less privileged students.

    Key Aims and Objectives

    > This second project aims to install a floating photovoltaic solar system on the same site in Killinochi Campus to produce electricity to supply to the Sri Lanka Electricity Board (SLEB) at a net price plus scheme generating an annual net income of approximately US$4,500 for the University.

    > The project also aims to demonstrate the viability and efficacy of FPV systems over conventional solar systems.

    > Improve funding streams for future research and student scholarship and endowments, support energy independence and availability in the North and East of Sri Lanka

    > Increase the testing sample data for FPV solar systems on different and varied environments over a three-year data collection period.

    > Promote sustainable development of clean energy sources and outreach activities on clean energy technologies among schools in the surrounding areas.

Above all, this project provides a valuable income stream to a University which is operating under severe financial stress due to the ongoing financial crisis faced by Sri Lanka as a whole.

The members of NorREN humbly requests for donations from individuals and organizations to provide a lasting legacy to future generations of students and professionals.

If you wish to clarify anything, please feel free to leave your questions in the comments area.
