Story
On March the 1st 2022 we will be taking the Llanberis path up to the summit of Mount Snowdon to riase much needed funds for Dottie's Trust. The first week or March is the coldest week snowdon experience on a yearly basis making this officially a winter climb, with high chances of snow and ice being on the ground throughout the climb
Our relationship with Dottie and her family first started on social media. Her, her dad John and big sister Bella are avid QPR fans and we ended up chatting about football and family.
We then saw a video of Dottie and her beautiful smile in Alberts shirt , and it completely melted our hearts!
We got to speak more to Dottie and her family due to the Christmas appeal. Dottie's positivity and constant smile wow'ed us. Her dad told us all about her own little appeal to make the nurses at the hospital Christmas hampers, we couldn't believe that even when going through chemotherapy this little girl was thinking of others.Sadly the famzone was cancelled and Dottie was poorly on the date of the Hamleys trip so Couldn't attend.
Just after Christmas we got to meet John and Bella at the stadium and it became clear why Dottie is such a little star, because her family are truly amazing!!Their positivity, kindness and togetherness as a family just shines. We were, and are, totally in awe of them, and are truly honoured to be taking on this challenge for them, and for Dottie.
Wish us luck!!.. We need it!
Dottie's story
Dottie was only 4 years old when she had a really bad headache & her parents John and Lou took her to their local A&E where she had an emergency MRI scan & was diagnosed with a brain tumour.
She was blue lighted straight away to GOSH. This all happened during the pandemic so there were restrictions on only Dottie's parents being allowed access to see Dottie, during this traumatic period.
Dottie's grandparents took over the care of John and Lou’s two other daughters, Lily (15) & Bella (9), who they didn’t see for another 3 weeks. When they did get to see them, they had to stand outside wearing face masks, in order to ensure safeguarding, and couldn't even give their girls a cuddle, due to concerns with Covid and the possibility of passing this onto Dottie.
5 days after Dottie was first diagnosed, due to concerns regarding the build up of pressure and fluid around the brain, she had a craniotomy, it was also necessary to carry out surgery to obtain some biopsies from the tumour in order to diagnose the type of tumour which Dottie had and the necessary
Dottie's brain surgeon was the world renowned Dr. Jaleeni who carried out the this delicate operation and due to where the tumour was perilously located on the brain, he miraculously and skillfully obtained 10 biopsies each the size of a half a grain of rice.
Once Dotties Parents had all the results back from the laboratory, they were then hit with the fact that Dotties journey was going to be a long one, requiring 18 months of chemotherapy, frequent trips to GOSH and Basildon Hospitals.
Dottie's journey is going to be a very long road, which will require ongoing care and support for many years. With this in mind and in preparation to provide Dottie with as much support as possible, her parents decided to create a trust fund for Dottie. The trust aims to assist with her ongoing care and taking opportunities with any medical advancements, it is a priority for them to be ready for when and should that time come as well as continuing to provide a healthy and stable environment for her.
