Story

As some of you are aware on the 15th of July 2022 my partner Bradley experienced an out of hospital sudden cardiac arrest (OHCA). Bradley had finished work at 3pm that Friday and drove home, Bradley just walked through the front door and by 3:15pm I phoned 999 as he had suddenly collapsed. I started CPR immediately for 12 minutes until three ambulances and paramedics arrived and took over. Bradley received four defibrillator shocks and after 40 minutes he was placed on a ventilator where he got his first breath. At 4pm he was taken to A&E and rushed into resuscitation, later that night Bradley was moved into the intensive care unit where me and his family was informed that he was in an induced coma and may never wake up. However, against all odds, on the 19th of July bradley was awake. The biggest concern now was Bradley’s neurological state due to his brain not receiving blood oxygen for 40 minutes, resulting in a very severe chance Bradley would be brain damaged. On the 9th of august Bradley got his operation to fit a subcutaneous implantable cardioverter defibrillator (S-ICD). Bradley spend a combine total of 31 days in ARI in four different wards. Now seven weeks on from the OHCA Bradley suffers minimal neurological effects with only having mild short term memory loss and is slowly getting back on his feet, however his life will never be fully back to how it was before the unfortunate event.

Without the efforts of the Scottish Ambulance Service and there fast response Bradley would not be here today. Myself and Bradley’s friends and family would like to raise money as a small gesture of our appreciation not only to the paramedics on scene that day but to all Scottish Ambulance Service staff. We will be walking 15.7km (in representation of the 15th of July) on the 8th of October 2022. Any contribution means so much.
