In January 2017, I received the most horrific call one could possibly answer; news that my best friend took his life by suicide. To deepen the shock, it became apparent that Rene had battled depression in silence for several years, away from friends or family. Still to this day, I often wonder what I could have done when I last saw him.

This November, a handful of Rene's closest friends including myself are racing across the Atlantic as novices. Not only is this a voyage in memory of Rene, but to support the work of Papyrus & Child Bereavement UK.

I have never slept on a boat.

The only knot I know is how to tie my shoe-lace.

The only passage of water I feel comfortable crossing is the Thames.

I know how to swim/doggy paddle.
