Story

We the Sikh Soldier Organisation are delighted to announce that the Sikh community of Huddersfield has been given approval to install a statue in Greenhead Park in memory of our brave Sikh soldiers who fought in the two World Wars. The statue, cast in bronze depicting a Sikh soldier, resplendent in his Dastaar and Army uniform standing 6’ tall, is even now being commissioned for completion by a world famous sculptor in Mumbai and should be ready for installation in early Summer 2019.

This historic memorial, one of a few in the UK and the first in Yorkshire, is the for the benefit of every Sikh in the UK and around the world and we at the Sikh Soldier Organisation strongly feel that this statue will also bolster even stronger ties with our fellow Yorkshire men and women and beyond.

The cost of making, delivery, installation and ongoing maintenance of the statue will cost approximately £50,000.

We have started fundraising for this project and have already received generous donations from people all over and from all communities. Please help us by donating so that our target can be achieved and the project successfully completed so that we, our children and their children can see that the sacrifices these men made will never be forgotten.

THANK YOU
