    Plans for the Collection

    The Sibahle Collection wants little black girls across the world to see the beauty of their skin, Sibahle is a Zulu word that means “We are beautiful”. The dolls in the Sibahle collection have features that resemble most African and Caribbean children’s facial and body features. The company is launching a crowdfunding campaign to give black girls whose families might not be able to afford a doll the chance to place with dolls that look like them. Whilst the company would love to be able to afford to give dolls away it would not be a sustainable business model to undertake and the team behind the Sibhale Collection wants all girls to have access to the Sibahle Collection.

    Positive image

    We have chosen to do this because we want to make sure every black girl grows up having a positive image to identify with. In Africa specifically, the very segment of the population that we had in mind when starting this is excluded as they cannot afford the doll. Most black households would have to choose between food, school and a doll. We don’t think there is much choice there. So, it would be great if we can get these in the hands of the underprivileged little girls who also need to grow up being affirmed.

    This initiative matters

    We originally came together to build a customer-centric hair company that specialises in 100% natural textured extensions to suit African women’s natural hair (Bounce Essentials). We identified the very real lack of black dolls with kinky Afro hair, sold in toy shops for parents of black and mixed heritage kids to buy. We decided to challenge the norm and came up with a quality beautiful dolls collection called “The Sibahle Collection” that would be representative of a children of African and Caribbean heritage. There are still instances however that the doll cannot reach the core segment of the little girls that the duo seek to inspire. This is why the crowdfunding campaign is so important. The
