Iʼve raised £6,790 to shave my head to support the staff and pupils at Llanwern High School

Funded on Tuesday, 1st March 2022

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

Being recently diagnosed with an aggressive breast cancer has been quite overwhelming at times but I'm trying to take any positives I can from a rubbish situation and...I hope you'll help me! If you know me at all, you'll know how much I love my job and where I work and I'm really going to miss the pupils and staff whilst I go through my treatment. I'm ready to shave my hair off in readiness for the impact of chemotherapy and I wonder if you'd consider sponsoring me/donating some money for the pupils and staff at Llanwern to help me support them in my absence.

Specifically, I would love to be able to fund three things:

    1. Free tea and coffee for staff for the rest of the academic year - this would be an absolute luxury! Hoping to stretch to a few custard creams on a Friday too (steady).

    2. Four laptops which can be loaned to support the language development of EAL pupils arriving at the school.

    3. Funding for additional events/pupils rewards in the school's brand new Celebrating Diversity calendar.

All three are very close to my heart.

I have set a ridiculously ambitious of £2500 to fund them all, but any amount you could spare - even a few pounds - will make a real difference to our school community in a very challenging year. I can guarantee you that any donations you make will help keep me positive as I undergo my treatment.

Here's a little video I made for the pupils of Llanwern High School about the outrageously unbelievable fundraising going on! I've worked out how to close the page now(!) - it'll close on March 1st. XXX

Thought you might like an update on how your donations are moving into actions. First up: tea, coffee and biscuits for the lovely staff at Llanwern! I appreciate that this part of the fund may not resonate with non-teachers, but if you know, you know. At one point, I did consider a specific fork purchasing budget (where do they go?). Anyway, look at one of the posh kits that the finance team have arranged and named...more news to follow. This was composed during my steroid sponsored insomnia, following Chemo 2 - excuse any typos... :)

It turns out this page is automatically open for 90 days so I thought I'd take advantage and post a quick video of the first fortnight of chemotherapy. I was so, SO scared, and having to walk in alone to the ward for the first treatment was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Luckily, the steroid high for the first few days was a welcome surprise! There are good days and tired days but mostly good ones now :) Next treatment on 27th January. Thank you all - I will get some photos of where your money is going before the 90 days are up!
