Story
My name is Sian Hopper and I am 16 years old. On April 1st 2018 I was diagnosed with a Pilocytic Astrocytoma brain tumour. On April 3rd 2018 I underwent a 6 hour operation to remove the tumour. I stayed in hospital for 5 days and then I was allowed home to recover. Three weeks after my operation I sat four of my GCSE’s.
A few weeks after sitting my exams, I was unfortunately admitted back into hospital and was diagnosed with having high cranial pressure; I had several more surgical procedures to deal with this very serious complication and a really long spell in hospital.
Since being in hospital it has made me realise how fortunate I was to have had the amazing staff on ward E40 at The Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham to help me to recover from my operations.
With this in mind, I am trying to fundraise for the ward. I plan to cut off my hair in the hope that people may sponsor me to do so. My intention is to raise money to buy some toys and resources for the children and young people who are on the ward for long periods of time like I was.
Angie, my hairdresser, will be cutting my hair short on the Tuesday 4th December 2018.
In addition to my fundraising efforts for the ward, I will be donating my hair to The Little Princess Trust, who are a charity that make real hair wigs for children and young adults who have lost their own hair as a result of cancer treatment.
I would really appreciate it, if you could help me raise as much money as we can for this extremely worthy cause.

6 years agoI just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone who has donated, I am totally overwhelmed by everyone’s generosity. I have spoken to the staff on Ward E40 and have a list of toys and equipment that will make a hospital stay a far better experience for children and young people facing challenging times. Once again from the bottom of my heart thank you so much for your support. Siân
