    Story

UPDATE - I hits me initial £15,000 target friends! Fank you all sooooo much! I feels so proud and loved. I still got 2 days to go and me big finish at Heaton Park! When I was shot and paralysed it makes me incontinent and sometimes I has accidents. I gets upset if I gets smelly and a normal shower is difficult for me so any extra funds going to be used to buy us a grooming Parlour pod. Also lots of the other Sanctuary Dogs need a good bath and some newbies who arrive a bit smelly. Sprucing them up improves their chances of being adopted. I hopes you can all help me wiv my last final push. I love you all so much.

    Love Sherry xx

Hello. My name is Sherry and I live at Dogs4Rescue, Manchester. I was shot and paralysed in Bulgaria 6 years ago. I had both me back legs amputated to give me a better quality of life and recently got some new custom-made wheels so I can run fast for the first time! So I decided to run a marathon to raise much needed funds for the loving rescue I calls my forever home. I plans to run 1 mile a day for 26 days, and I really hoping all my friends around the world will sponsor me. I raises money for a new visitors area so you can come visit me and feel the D4R magic yourselves. Then I gets attention from people all day (my favourite thing).

    Fank you

    Love Sherry xx

Sherry came to the UK 5 years ago. She had been shot and paralysed in Bulgaria, rescued by Twitchy Noses and then offered a home by a kind hearted family in England. Unfortunately Sherry’s injuries were too much for the family to cope with and Dogs4Rescue stepped in offering her sanctuary at our free running rescue near Irlam. There were those who suggested we she should put to sleep because of her injuries but you only need to meet Sherry to see her appetite for life and we couldn’t consider giving up on this girl. We paid thousands to have both her back legs and tail removed so she could move around more easily and have never looked back. She is living a happy and fulfilled life here and just adores everyone she meets.

Sherry is a joyous girl with a kind temperament and lots of determination to live life to the max – she is an inspiration to everyone who meets her. We are a free-running rescue saving dogs from the UK and around the world and Sherry is very much a part of the pack who live and sleep together. She plays a special matriarch role here – Queen Bee and mum to everyone, the first to welcome the newbies taking the shy ones under her wing. She’s also an Ambassadog for our rescue at dog shows, fundraising events and corporate days showing everyone disabled dogs can enjoy a wonderful life.

Sherry is running her marathon to raise funds so we can complete our first site as our pioneering rescue strives to become a Centre Of Excellence for kennel-free rescue living. We set up as the UK’s first free-running rescue 5 years ago and once this site is complete will turn our sights to a second site so we can help even more desperate dogs in need.

We have transformed the adventure playground and started 3 new Doggie Enrichment Areas but we need a place for people to be able to visit.

The creation of Volunteer / Visitor Area will allow for all kinds of possibilities going forward and is something we are desperately missing to function properly as a dog rescue.

An existing log cabin will be refurbished to create a new Volunteer / Community cabin, complete with heating and insulation, new flooring, a kitchen and sofa areas. The cabin will have an interior door so it can be sectioned into two areas. The cabin will have its own secure fenced recreational area with seating for guests and activities for our dogs to play on.

The cabin can be used for things like:

    1. Meet and greet for potential adopters

    2. Enrichment Angels working with frightened reactive dogs to reduce their sensitivity

    3. Our groundbreaking Pet Therapy Rescue where people can access professional counselling in the relaxing company of a couple of our dogs

    4. A grooming salon (pampering enrichment for the sanctuary dogs).

    5. A place to come and feel the magic.

    6. Welcoming potential corporate partners to the rescue.

    7. A hub for community activity eg coffee mornings with lonely pensioners

Please support Sherry’s Marathon if you can x
