Feeding The Fasting With SMD.

When we started the "Feeding The Fasting With SMD" Project ten Ramadhans ago,we started with one purpose in mind; To provide top notch nutritious meals for the needy and poor!

Usually,when meals are provided to feed the needy it is something simple and basically just rice. I decided I wanted to do something a bit more and different. I decided that I would raise money to give them meals good enough to serve party guests! I know that the needy make do with almost anything.

I was however inspired with the way Saudis take care of the guests of Allah during hajj. I saw the needy as "guest of Allah" during the holy month. They deserve to be treated at least like the middle class and ensure they eat well and healthy.

FTF with SMD was birth with this in mind and we served the most delicious dishes cooked naturally, nutritious and very rich too.

We got donations, cooked and served different meals with nutrition and health in high regards. From white rice and sauce with fish to rice & beans,jollof rice,beans &bread, koko(pap) with milk,sugar and moimoi garnished with crayfish and Titus fish. We even used to serve fried rice with chicken, semo with ewedu and inu eran etc. The meals included dates and water, packed in stryfoams,with spoons and in a nylon bag to take away!

The people we served are always so grateful that people saw beyond their poverty and treated them with good food you would serve honoured guests. These people have come to look forward to this time of the year when they are fed healthy without them having to worry about the cost. In all these years,we have provided over 40,000 plates of deliciously nutritious food.

When we started the project, we started with raising 500 naira per plate,then last year it became 1000 per plate. At the moment, food stuff price has become very steep. At this moment, we are caught between going on with the FTF mission to serve great healthy meals or not feed them this Ramadhaan at all.

If we are to go on with out mission,we would cook at 1500 per plate hoping that we are able to raise raise money to feed 7000 people so as to be able to go with this cost of 1500 per plate,which means we would need 10,500,000 in total.if we have a third of that(3.4M) ready at hand each time we want to puchase the needed we will still be able to go with that price.

This cost is not just for the food stuff,but it also includes fueling to power the freezers to store perishable due to very poor electrical supply from PHCN. We will also need fueling for logistics,fueling for cooking,paying the cooks and other workers etc.

For us, providing meals different from what we have always done isn't an option,what is an option is cook or not to cook. So far,everyone says we should go ahead and feed this year too, especially as the people we feed will be looking forward to the meals.
