Weʼve raised £1,780 to help my uncle (a Falklands vet) and his family cope financially after a cancer-induced amputation of his right arm

Funded on Thursday, 29th April 2021

Don't have time to donate right now?

    Story

My uncle - Mark Butland - has recently had his arm amputated in order to give him the best chance of surviving Synovial sarcoma; a rare, incredibly aggressive form of cancer that has left him in a tremendous amount of pain over the past few months.

Mark is a devoted family man, an excellent father and proud Welshman. He is a veteran of the Falklands, has already suffered from (and survived) a brain tumour, a tumour in his neck, and a complete lack of hormones in the glands of his body, but this is his biggest fight yet.

Given the fact that he's now had this operation, he has had to give up work, which will naturally make things very financially tight in these already uncertain times for my aunt Christine, their two children Phoebe and Lois, and my uncle himself over the coming months.

If you can spare anything at all - even if it's just the cost of a cup of coffee - we'd all be incredibly grateful.

    Thank you,
    Shaun

Good morning everyone. My uncle has now successfully had his operation and is now recovering in hospital. We're all now hoping that this will have done enough to get rid of the cancer, but naturally it's just a waiting game before we find out. At this stage I want to say a massive, massive thank you to everyone who has donated, retweeted, or offered advice on other organisations who may be able to help over the coming months. It will help my aunt, uncle and cousins more than you will ever know. Thank you from us all, Shaun

Massive thank you to everyone who has donated so far and all those with a bigger reach than me who have shared or retweeted - after just 4 days we've raised an amazing £895 for my uncle & his family to support them through an incredibly tough period of their lives. The initial goal of £500 was smashed so quickly, so now it's just a case of keeping this going before I send the money across to them in a few weeks' time. My uncle's operation is on the 8th January, so I'm hoping to have surpassed the next milestone of £1,000 by then. Cheers Shaun
