I’m raising funds to cover vet fees for 6 Shar-Pei`s neglected and abandonded by their owner Sarah from Southport, well known breeder of the Yuanpei and luckily recently rescued by Wonky Pets Rescue.

I own a lovely Shar-Pei girl, luckily from a different breeder but more than a year ago due to his kidney failure I lost a Shar-Pei boy from Yuanpei family who was genetically affected by ameloidosis and there was no way to cure it.

“As many of you know we rescue lots of Shar Pei here at Wonky Pets Rescue but what happened last week is beyond anything we have ever come across, involving one of THE MOST PROLIFIC SHAR PEI BREEDERS in the UK - YUANPEI Shar Pei's.

After being alerted to dogs being sold on freeads for as little as £50 we were then contacted by the breeder and asked to take the dogs that were left, what followed was 15 of her dogs coming into rescue with most of them in an absolutely shocking state! (We also know that she has already sold some others on and given a number of dogs and 2 litters of puppies to her brother to sell, she also tried to lie to us about who she, originally giving a false name and describing herself as having bred a few litters a few years ago!)

We have worked with some of our trusted rescue colleagues to make sure all 15 of these dogs that were signed over are receiving all the vet care and attention they desperately need BUT as you can imaging this is coming at a huge expense.

All of the dogs of course need neutering, vaccinating and most need microchipping (not even the basics had been done), many have horrific infected skin, most underweight, nearly all of the dogs have horrible ear infections but the most shocking of all is that some of the dogs already have eyes missing (although only one surgically removed and sewn up), many need corrective entropian surgery, several of the dogs have "mush" where their eye used to be so need eye socket enucleation and others need eyes removed where they are so badly ulcerated from untreated infections and entropian. Some of the older dogs arrived with their eye "tacked" open and we dont believe that had been done by a vet!

Anyone involved with Shar pei and aware of the Yuanpei affix will have heard of Ivan, the top blue stud dog that she so proudly boasted had fathered so many litters, according to the Kennel club register 74 litters have been sired by Ivan (and that's just the ones she bothered registering) and with a stud fee of £1k a time we will leave you to do the maths. That's on top of the sale of the hundreds and hundreds of puppies that have been churned out like a conveyor belt over the years. Poor Ivan who has been used to make her soooo much money has now simply been discarded along with the rest, he is in poor condition and needs to have one of his eyes removed its so badly scarred from an untreated entropian and infection.

Wonky Pets Rescue have kept the 6 worstly affected dogs ranging from no eyes, to one eye needing entropian and the other eye removing, to bi lateral entropian, awful skin infections, ear infection and one poor girl who is completely terrified. Our total vet bill just for these 6 dogs is going to be in the region of £3,500.
