Forget Me Not Reading Rescues
KYA December 2023 - March 2025
Kya’s story is one of love, resilience, and heartbreak—the kind that stays with you long after the last goodbye. From the moment we pulled her, her mum, and her ten siblings from the brink of death in that notorious Romanian kill shelter, Kya was a fighter. Christine Dore and I worked against the clock, knowing every second counted. We got them out, across Romania, and into the safety of Gabriella’s care. It felt like a miracle then, and maybe it was.
Soon, Kya and two of her siblings—Sapphire and Fen—found homes in the UK. Fen went off to the Shetlands, while Kya and Sapphire settled in Devon. But as we know all too well, not every home is forever. Their adopters gave up on them, and in the sweltering summer of 2024, we brought them back to Reading. Back to Forget Me Not.
That summer, the Romanian girls found their feet again. Kya, once reserved, blossomed under the care of her foster mum Emma Robinson. She was happy. She was safe. By the end of the season, it seemed their luck had turned—homes were found once more, this time in Shetland. We made the long journey to see them settled, hopeful that this time, it was forever.
Then, in November, we heard the news. Kya’s behaviour had changed. A head tremor. A vet check. A diagnosis that seemed harmless. Her family tried, but they struggled. And so, Kya came back to us. I tought maybe this time she’d be mine. I cried when I left her, and I cried again when she returned. But whatever hope I had for her future was shattered the next day. Kya had multiple seizures. We rushed her to our incredible vet. Tests. Waiting. Dread. And then, the words no one wanted to hear. A large brain tumour. Inoperable.
At just 14 months old, Kya’s fight was over. We made the hardest, kindest decision, holding her as she slipped away. We are broken. Completely broken.
If I could save you a million times over, Kya, I would. If love alone could have kept you here, you’d have lived forever.
Run free, Miss Kya. In fields of gold, where nothing can ever hurt you again.
You were, and always will be, a Forget Me Not.
🚨 URGENT: KYA NEEDS YOUR HELP! 🚨
Kya has had the worst luck of any dog. Just one year old, she has already been through so much—only to find herself back in rescue. And now, she’s seriously unwell.
Kya is suffering from partial seizures, and she urgently needs an MRI scan and specialist care to diagnose the cause. Without it, we cannot help Kya.
💔 This poor girl deserves a chance. After everything she’s been through, we refuse to give up on her! But we need YOUR help to make that possible.
We must raise £4000 to cover her vet bills, and every single donation—big or small—will make a difference.
📢 Please donate if you can and share Kya’s story far and wide.

11 days agoIt’s with a heavy heart we share the sad news that Kya didn’t make it. She passed away the day after arriving back from Shetland. After further assessment, it became clear that she had a brain tumour. We made the incredibly difficult decision to let her go peacefully. Thank you to everyone who supported Kya’s journey. This isn’t the outcome we hoped for, but she was surrounded by love at the end. Your donations continue to help us give dogs like Kya the best possible care. We truly appreciate your support. Forget Me Not Reading Rescues is a small, foster-based rescue helping dogs in need. We have no kennels. Our dogs stay in foster homes, while awaiting their forever families. We rely entirely on donations and personal funding to cover vet bills, food, and transport.
