Story
Childhood cancer is every parents biggest fear. The physical and emotional impact that this has on not only the children but their loved ones is unthinkable. We have sadly witnessed the impact of this strain on a family very close to us. One of our own SMS Team members and his family have had to endure this nightmare when their daughter, Delilah was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL) in March 2021. At the time Delilah was only 2 years of age.
Delilah underwent 2 years of intensive treatment at the Royal Marsden. Sadly, in April 2023 Delilah relapsed and required a bone marrow transplant. Thankfully, her older sister Daisy was deemed to be a full match and became Delilah's life saving doner. The girls became Stem Cell Sisters in August 2023. The procedure was carried out at The Royal Marsden in the McElwain ward where Delilah endured a long stay in isolation as she recovered from her transplant.
The great news is that Delilah is now doing amazingly well, she is back at school and living life to the full as a lively 6 year old.
Long spells in hospital are never easy and for children this is much more difficult, even more so with the aggressive treatment they receive that has a severe impact on their body so little things like arts and crafts, handheld games, puzzles, slime, bubbles, music etc provides a great escape from their challenging environment.
Our goal is to bring together the local community with "A Season of Smiles" to help support other courageous children that are being treated over the festive period, to put a smile on their face but to also provide enough resource to entertain these amazing children for the entirety of the year.
Let's all come together to make these children and their families feel special and add some sparkle to their Christmas. For every £1 received, Schools Management Support Ltd will match it up to £2000.00. Your support will help us reach our goal to buy Christmas presents and gifts bringing a smile to these courageous kids this Christmas.
