Story
Our story:
Sunnica Ltd are attempting to rewrite the East Anglian landscape forcing a 500MW solar power plant, (the largest ever in the UK) in a piecemeal development between seven historic villages. It will cover 2800 acres of productive arable farmland in Suffolk & Cambridgeshire.
If permitted, this scheme will open developer-led floodgates across the UK, diminishing food security, impacting biodiversity and heritage assets and irreversibly changing the healthy open access and vista of our countryside. What’s more they are using bullish tactics to force this through during Covid when ordinary communities are distracted and under such pressure.
Battery storage safety at this scale is unproven.
All other battery storage (BESS) schemes in the world are away from residential property; in the Outback, Arizona desert or inland plains or Steppes, due to the known fire and explosion risks and potential toxic gas emissions. Yet Sunnica will be just 1800m from a primary school and homes.
East Anglia produces more than a third of the UK's plant based food - its known as Britain’s breadbasket.
This area has welcomed more than a dozen renewable energy schemes within a 15 mile radius and is already generating 450MW of electricity. These current schemes are proportionate to the surroundings and contribute to the local community and benefit the Local Authority.
The unprecedented scale of Sunnica's proposal will decimate the remaining agriculture in this area.
Sunnica's solar power plant proposal is not a stand alone one-off project, the Sunnica Directors are planning a further 'super-sized' scheme on 1400 acres of Essex farmland and other Companies are planning similar schemes to take agricultural land.
Say YES to solar but NO To Sunnica, please support our fight right now!
Every donation will be greatly appreciated.

Say No To Sunnica
3 years agoThanks to all who supported our first call for donations on or off line! The planning application is in the Pre-Examinations phase with the National Planning Inspectorate. We have raised the issues considerably with the help of national and local media support but need you to rally behind our BIG PUSH to fight this at planning hearings. Please help by donating if you can. Thank You.

Cambridgeshire/Suffolk
We're a group of ordinary residents standing up against renewable energy forcing dire consequences for this area & ultimately all of our environment. This is trading our power for foreign profit - masquerading as green energy. No community or consumer benefit.
