I've raised £7500 to Save the Outdoor Learning Space for Shenley Primary School

Unfortunately Shenley Primary School, a school situated in the heart of the Hertfordshire Shenley community is under very real threat of losing a large area at the rear of its school grounds. The area sold off was not offered to the school to purchase themselves. The current situation stands that the only emergency vehicle access into the grounds of the school is now compromised as the gated access to allow this is within the area sold. At the very least, the school will now have to create a new space for this, at huge cost to themselves impacting the financial funds reserved for the normal operation of the school. The school has already undergone huge financial difficulty in having to purchase a new roof for the entire building. This new access is just the initial negative impact on the school and its community. Looking further into the impact of this sale; the area sold accommodates the area created to teach forest school lessons to children. The evidence to illustrate the benefits of outdoor learning is enormous, the children are being robbed of this opportunity! The land houses a 'Wild Wood Den' area that was purchased purely by the fundraising of the school PTA over a 3 year period at a cost of £24,000. Gardening club takes place here, an allotment patch and various other areas for children to explore, learn and grow. Given what is currently the experience for this generation of children this was not the time to rob them of such an integral part of their curriculum. When they are finally allowed .to return to school, what will they be returning to? It is currently looking like it will be a fenced off area with all of their equipment still installed behind it! The children of this community deserve the very best, they do not deserve to return to school and be faced with this. The school is lucky, it has a phenomenal team of staff, they deserve to teach the children in the outdoor area that has been enriched with resources, care, time and love over the years. How will they be able to safely distance the children when the time is right to allow our children to be educated at school as a whole once again? Our community understands that this is not the best time for any businesses or individuals to financially support causes, however this is not the time for the sellers of this land to rob them of their education either. If you are able to 'Pay it Forward' to our school, its hundreds of children and the thousands of children that will follow them then please do so in the knowledge that it is going to support this generation of learners and will secure the future of the school without fear of ever having to challenge this again. Us parents need your help, to help them.
