Story

SSEN proposals for a new overhead line from Kintore to Tealing are likely to have a devastating impact on our Mearns. The object of Save Our Mearns is to oppose the current SSEN East Coast 400kV Phase 2 project specifically the new OHL through the Mearns and the Fetteresso 400kV substation.

This group aims to bring the community together to campaign for changes to the project to minimise the long term impact on our natural environment and our lives. Scottish and Southern Energy Networks proposal to build a new power line right through the Mearns on prime agricultural land. The James Hutton Institute states that, “Aberdeenshire has limited prime agricultural land and therefore it must be protected.”

This fundraising has already covered initial costs to promote the awareness within our community as we know so many people were unaware of the proposal and the scale of it.

Your donation will help us to:

Print and distribute leaflets and posters

Hold public meetings and events

Pay for legal and technical expertise.

Challenge SSEN's proposals at public inquiries. We know from Dalmally No More Pylons group they are raising £20000 to cover the cost of Kings Council and other professionals, we realistically need to aim for the same amount.

Save Our Mearns may pool funds with other campaign groups along the Kintore to Tealing Line if we receive expert advice that doing so will give us the best opportunity to protect the Mearns and Fetteresso.

Dissolution Clause:

In the event of the group ceasing to exist, the property and funds of the group shall not be paid to or distributed among the members but shall be used for charitable work / local community groups.
