“Gerry was not only my neighbour but also a great friend who was more like family...His work is not only a part of the architecture of the building, it’s also an integral part of the local community.”

- Evelyn, Neighbour

Help us protect the otherworldly legacy left behind by a man in his social housing flat and garden i west London! Gerry's Pompeii is a melting pot of Irish, royal, popular and local history (to name a few), all things sparkly and the creative and unassuming genius of Gerard (Gerry) Dalton. This visionary and caring labour of love features roughly 200 concrete and mixed media sculptures, around 170 wall mounted works and a 50 metre long mural along the Grand Union Canal, all wrapped up and framed with collaged wallpapers, notes, wall paintings, and garden topiaries.

We want to preserve, share and sustain Gerry’s Pompeii in its integral physical and social context, and through this example contribute to the decentralisation of cultural heritage. Doing so we can help advance ways of experiencing and celebrating marginalised stories in the U.K and Ireland.

”There is absolutely nothing like this elsewhere in the UK or Ireland.”

Danielle Thom, Curator of Making, museum of London.

The only way to save Gerry's Pompeii in situ is to buy the property at its current value of £550,000.

This fundraiser will support our campaign as we work towards this target.

HOW YOUR DONATION WILL HELP

1. Buy the property at estimated cost

Donations will add to a larger fundraising project of raising the full amount of the property. Further donations will also go towards setting up a fund for maintenance and running costs of the Museum.

2. Support the ongoing works of the campaign

This will help us continue the work towards a viable solution that considers all parties involved in this unique situation. Donations will also go directly to pay rent and other maintenance costs during this period.

Some quotes from our visitors so far:

A very important place! There is no other environment of this size and quality in the U.K."

- Jarvis Cocker

Amazing...It’s a folk version of the National Portrait Gallery"

- Sir Charles Saumarez Smith CBE

...I have seldom been so affected."

- Richard Wentworth, Artist

“Gerry’s obsession with creating, with turning his home into a museum of his own making, has produced a truly unique experience in a one bed flat nestled on the banks of the canal. Everyone involved in the campaign has a hugely important task to preserve this remarkable home which is at once a vital piece of local history and a monumental artwork. I was fortunate enough to be able to explore the catacombs of Gerry’s miniature palaces and walk among the regiments of Maida Vale’s concrete army, and I wholeheartedly support the campaign to save Gerry’s home so that many others may do the same.”

- Louis Platman, curator at the Geffrye Museum of the Home
