Story

The UCU strike action due to begin on Monday 8/2/21 has been called off

The UCU and the University have met today regarding the dispute in connection with the reorganisation of Information Services. The dispute is resolved and as a result the UCU has agreed to call off its industrial action.

Brighton UCU Coordinating Committee (05/02/21)

--------

We were striking to stop compulsory redundancies being made at a time of a pandemic, and when IT services are more essential than ever given so much teaching is rightly online

We do not take the decision to strike lightly. Strike action will cause disruption to the operations of the University, not least to our students whose education has been affected already by the pandemic. But we cannot let University management handpick our colleagues for dismissal from their jobs by falsely declaring them redundant and refusing to redeploy them into vacant posts.

Use of funds raised

Money raised will go to create a hardship fund so those striking members who need it can find support and to help cover strike related expenses so we can continue to organise effectively. Although we have set a target of £5,000 any funds raised upto, matching or exceeding this target by the end of the campaign will be put to use (March 2021 - revised to Feb 2021).

Many thanks for your solidarity,

Brighton UCU
