Story

There's a brilliant free food comparison website called Trolley.co.uk that has helped millions of people save money on food prices, and it's going to close in 9 days (Friday 8th July) unless they get 28k - they've raised 8k themselves, but at this rate they're not going to make it.

And it makes me feel sick to think that this truly great #Techforgood tool is about to be thrown away just before we're about to enter the the worst living times since 1982.

So what? Right now, inflation is at 9.1% and it directly translates into higher prices on food for so many (as said by the BBC news article from 6 days ago, 23 June 2022 ). This #CostOfLivingCrisis will most likely go deep into next year, and the average annual grocery bill in the UK is set to rise by £380 this year. Everyone will feel this -->

Is this just paranoia? No, Trolley confirmed what they're seeing based on their comparison data:

Cooking Oil 🛢️ costs 26.6% more since last June

Butter 🧈 costs 21.4% more since last June

Milk 🥛 costs 18.7% more since last June

Chicken 🍗 costs 13.6% more since last June

So, websites like this -- correction: FREE and ad-free websites like this -- are a way for consumers to have a leg up.

For whatever reason, those millions that used the site don't know that Trolley.co.uk is about close down. For millions more, they don't know that Trolley exists (I challenge you to spend 5 minutes on the site now and not to be impressed at what you could save! Go on, I dare you...https://www.trolley.co.uk/)

So, I need help, to help them, to help you. Please, please, please help me raise 20k in nine days - that's by next week Friday. That's the day we'll be finishing up work and entering the weekend, filled with lovely plans with loved ones, but it also could be the day you can also feel so proud and happy to have helped your loved ones, your community and yourself by being part of this.

Everything raised will go directly to the Trolley.co.uk team (4 people that worked on MySupermarket comparison site, that believed in a dream to help people save money.) In their own words:

Obviously, they should have paid the licensing, but at least they're taking responsible action now. (Here's where you can view the Cease & Desist legal letter they received if you're interested.)

My question for us off this is, if companies have our data anyway (for better or worse), why can't it be used on something good that's going to benefit us? And would I rather have this website in my life during the year ahead?

BTW, what happened to the other comparison site, MySupermarket? It closed down... We can't let this happen again, not now, when so many people are in need.

I searched for bread just now on Trolley - see the profile image - who knew you can find bread loaves for 36p? Not me. How much could you save by using this site?

In summary, I've donated what I can. If I had all of the money, it would be going directly there - so I'm doing the next best thing... I'm raising awareness, asking for help and saying a prayer in hope that the sum of many good-hearted kind people can make a difference to something tangibly real for everyone.

This campaign will end by next Friday so please, please, take three minutes now to donate whatever you can. Share this with your company, colleagues, get a collection going and feel proud like me that we're doing something small that will impact BIG.

Many thanks, Meena (Manjinder Toor), a regular nobody average-joe working 9-5, and seeing that this is a good cause. Any questions, get me on manjinder.toor@gmail.com. I really hope you're as moved as I am to take action x
