Story
For many years now, The Comrades in Heckmondwike has supported the local music scene. From first-time performers to seasoned performers both local and national.
This is yet another Grassroots venue which faces closure due to ridiculous energy prices and the increased cost of living for everybody.
Help us to help keep the doors open.
It hosted the Crown of Lights music nights which used the venue to provide a stage to some amazing acts who then went on to play Crown of Lights festival in Heckmondwike in front of over 1,000 attendees.
Numerous bands have held single launches at this venue. The Comrades also has a band rehearsing there with equipment storage provided.
That is only the music side of things.
The Comrades has pool, snooker and darts teams, providing more social connection for their regulars. Weekly bingo games and more regular things for the members.
The function room is available for functions parties and organisation in need of a space.
The local dramatics society Heckmondwike Players rehearse here most of the year.
To put it bluntly, if this venue was to close, there would be a huge hole appear within the local community. Lots of groups and organisations would need to find a new home. The patrons would lose thier social connections and the local music scene would take a huga blow just as the venue is starting to be utilised again with the growing local bands and artists.
If you are unable to attend our fundraiser event on Friday 27th January, please feel free, if you are able to, donate something to help the doors remain open!

Should’ve been playing. Sorry to let folks down but I’ve a throat infection and full of cold. This is the least I could do to help keep a wonderful venue going. Enjoy the night!

I had my wedding reception there because my late Dad loved the place. Also met some wonderful friends there via various gigs.
