    Story

Over the past 2 years we have seen an unprecedented increase in harm to local wildlife at Holmer Lake and in recent weeks we have reached the final straw.

The Friends of Holmer Lake were formed in 2015 with 3 clear ambitions; to give locals the opportunity to improve their community while getting out and getting fit, to enhance the amenity of the area and most importantly to protect wildlife and allow it to thrive. Tragically, all our efforts are being challenged in the most sickening and inhuman of ways.

No one cares more for the wildlife at Holmer Lake than our volunteers and supporters, and we are proud of our achievements in 4 short years. We cannot and will not let these despicable acts stop us from doing what we love.

We have been overwhelmed by the public’s response to this recent tragic news. They have rallied in their thousands to support us and we will be forever grateful. A huge thank you to everyone who has shared our story and pledged to help us.

Now is time for a proactive and compassionate response. We will shortly be launching our campaign called Save Our Swans (SOS) and through this campaign we will be asking the public to help us crowdfund for nature cameras to monitor the behaviour and safety of our swans. We are asking the community to get behind us and support this important campaign through social media at #SaveOurSwans. We will be working with local schools and other authorities to help bring attention to the importance of the protection of these majestic animals and introducing regular patrols of Holmer Lake. If you would like to know more about how you can get involved, please contact us directly.

We are clearly a community united over of our shock and sadness at these senseless acts. This disgusting behaviour will not be tolerated by any of us, so let’s work together to make Holmer Lake a safe place for our swans to return.

Please donate as little or as large as you can.
