    Story

Hello everyone! We are raising money to save our beloved 2 year old french bulldog named Halo! Halo needs lifesaving treatment over the next few days which our insurance won’t cover!

    Here’s our story!

Friday 17th May halo had ear pain so we cleaned her ears to which she cried at the right side as we thought she must have an ear infection of some sort. Saturday 18th we woke up and her right eye was fully shut, she was shaking and losing her balance. We took her to the vets and they treated her eye as conjunctivitis with eye drops due to her shaking stopping and her balance wasn’t as bad. With in hours she began to struggle breathing and having to open her mouth to help. Her eye balls were flickering side to side and she was stumbling when she walked. Her head was also tilted to the right and hung downwards. We rushed her to the emergency vets. At first they classed it as a head stroke to which then it got changed to meningitis and then maybe an ear infection that is severe. She stayed for two nights and was placed in an oxygen tent for 3-6 hours. Her blood results came back fine which ruled out one case of SRM (steroid responsive meningitis). They found a blood clot in her ear but said it was nothing major. We picked her up Monday 20th and she has been referred to Pride Veterinary Centre to have MRI scans and fluid taken from her spine.

After the MRI scan they confirmed that halo does in fact have a case of meningoencephalitis meningitis but she also has a severe ulcer behind her eye.

She is undergoing spinal tap treatment for the meningitis to save her life and at the same time she’s going to have her beautiful right eye removed. The vets have said that the most important part is treating the meningitis immediately but we definitely need the ulcer and eye removing as the ulcer could rupture at any moment which could poison and kill her. The vets have also said that she may possible need the surgery to open her nostrils.

    Now to the money part..

The first part of treatment cost £80 to be seen and receive eye drops. When we took her to the emergency vets that then cost £430 for two nights, a drip, antibiotics and steroids.

The mri scan and spinal tap at pride veterinary centre is costing £3150 plus £250 per night for 24 hour care. She will need around 3 nights there.

Removing halo’s eye is costing £1200 as she’s having it done at the same time as the spinal tap to reduce the emotional and physical stress of anaesthetic. Originally she was going to have it done in 2-3 days at a cost of £2500.

If they find out during the surgery she needs her nose/airways opening then that will be an additional £2000.

We have spoken to our insurance who have said they will pay £3000 towards treatment which won’t even cover half of it as we are expecting fees up to £8000.

Halo is a very loved family member. She’s only 2 years old and up until now has been a very happy and healthy dog who loves playing with her beagle brother and having lots of cuddles with the family.

We just can’t let halo go over the rainbow bridge way before her time!

We ask people to donate whatever they can however big or small.

Let’s get this baby girl better!!

Lots of love from Halo and her family
