Story
Our Challenge:
Satish: 26th Aug 2016, Cycle Round Lake Leman (Lake Geneva): c170 KM
Sanjay & Satish: 14th–17th Sep 2016, London to Paris Bike Ride: 120-130 KM per day for 4 days
You can take pleasure in knowing that it will be a long and painful challenge.
Your donation: We both decided to self-fund these events and therefore 100% of your donation will be received by the charity for its research.
Why?
We’ve known Mona for nearly 20yrs and unfortunately, she has a rare muscle disease called GNE Myopathy. It’s a rare genetic condition from birth, but the symptoms only present in early-adulthood. I want to share my personal account of seeing this disease take its effect on her through the holidays we’ve shared.
17yrs ago: Our first holiday to the Far East & Australia; she had a funny walk, a tendency to trip over; we put this down to her love of heels and cocktails. She managed to climb Sydney Harbour Bridge.
15yrs ago: Thailand; needed a hand when getting into a pool with steps.
12yrs ago: Egypt; she started to need a walking stick.
6yrs ago: St Lucia; a few years on, she needed 2 walking sticks, wheelchair at times, full support into the pool and the odd piggyback
4yrs ago: Mauritius; a lot more support, needed a wheelchair and help into the pool
2yrs ago: Bali; reliant on a mobility scooter (which my kids and I love to joyride) and a walker. She needed 2 people to assist her into the pool. Her shoulders/arms are weakened so she couldn’t protect herself during a fall leaving her with stitches on her head.
Today, she continues to fight on...
The above shows how this disease eats away and takes effect on the whole body. However, over this time I can’t recall a single time when I’ve seen Mona feeling sorry for herself. She is always optimistic, funny and courageous. She still loves to experience life to the fullest.
When she mentioned she was raising awareness of this charity, we both felt it was a fab opportunity to help via our challenges

8 years agoAll, thanks for all the positive messages and support. I am glad to say that that we finished the ride, it was grilling route and the weather played its part it making it worse. Normally Day 1 is the difficult day but Day 3 was the day the most people needed the recovery bus due to riding through wind farm that were turning at decent speed !!, will attach a Video. Couple of pictures and will add more soon.
