Story
Ella Dove
As many of you will know, Ella had her leg amputated below the knee in June after she fell over when she was out running. The fall dislocated her right knee and the kneebone cut through a major artery to her leg. A few days later, surgeons at the Royal London Hospital removed the lower part of her leg.
As Ella, who never loses her sense of humour, put it, “I’m the only person who could lose a leg from tripping on a flat surface.”
Ella hopes to keep her room in a flat share in Stratford, east London and to return to her job as a magazine journalist at Prima and Good Housekeeping. But in the meantime, she must deal with months of hard work and rehabilitation. She needs to make her home disabled-friendly and she will have to find the funds for very expensive prosthetics if she wants more than the basics supplied by the NHS. All of which means that Ella faces large costs.
I know many of us have been wondering how we can help Ella. I really hope this fundraising page will allow people to contribute and ease the financial burden of her rehabilitation.
I met Ella on a writing course last year and, like all the other would-be writers, I was struck by Ella’s positive bubbly personality, her kindness, and her brilliant writing. I feel very lucky to have become friends with her and if anyone can get over such a seismic change in their circumstances then that person is Ella.
We all send our love and wish Ella the very best in the coming months.
