Lucy is almost 14 and should be starting Year 10 in September. Her cerebral palsy means that she cannot talk, write or type (by hand) so there are massive barriers to learning. Nonetheless she loves learning and, given the right support, she's good at it. She wants to go to university to study physics. Lucy is one of a handful of students in the country that can access a mainstream curriculum using eye gaze technology.

We are currently going through the difficult process of having Lucy’s Education Health Care Plan rewritten. At the moment if we were to send Lucy to school with the support written it would be like sending the late Professor Stephen Hawking to school without the right equipment. It wouldn’t work. As such Lucy has been left without suitable education for 3 years and without the assistive technology that she needs to reduce some of the barriers to learning.

We ask that whilst we go through the legal process of challenging the current EHC that people support the purchase of equipment as detailed on her assessment to make sure she can access the education she needs. The £4000 will be used to purchase equipment and if we are lucky enough to have any monies over we have put aside £1000 to make sure relevant training is used for us as parents and staff to use the equipment and get the most out of it.
