I hadn't planned on fundraising for my upcoming Liverpool marathon efforts until I was chatting to the Head, Heather Landers, at my son's school. She wanted some financial support, from The Friends group that I am a part of.

What, I asked, do you want to buy? I was thinking play equipment, a climbing wall - fun stuff. No! Dining room tables is what she NEEDS.

The existing hexagonal tables are massive and unyieldy and lead to overcrowding in the dining room. What she would really like, to make the dining room nicer for the children, is new, long rectangular tables!

It struck me that schools should have money for these things, this is essential. Who wants to be jostled and nudged when having a break at lunchtime?

So here I am, asking for your support and your cash. It isn't a tear jerker of a story or particularly exciting but, I promise, it will make a difference to the children of St Stephens.

Just so you know - any funds raised by the Friends group is being match funded by Santander, so anything you give will be doubled!!
