Story

Sponsor us as we walk the 13 mile hike across the Seven Sisters from Seaford to Eastbourne in East Sussex. The staff at KMAH are doing this walk to help raise funds to support the development of a sensory garden. The Kent and Medway Adolescent Hospital in Staplehurst is a 14 bedded adolescent psychiatric unit supporting young people. We have been passionate about developing our unit to be more neurodiversity friendly and this has included a sensory garden being developed at the unit.
The young people on the unit have been involved in the planning and design of the sensory garden and are excited to start the work on the garden to create the opportunity for them to experience connecting with the outdoors in a structured setting.
Spending time outdoors is good for the patient’s health – benefits of nature highlight it improves physical, mental & emotional health & wellbeing. Research tells us spending time outdoors in nature relieves problems associated with mental health, including anxiety, stress and depression.
So please do support us in raising funds to go towards the Health Way Foundation, our NHS charity, who are helping to fund this garden to support our young people!
