A Message From Hillside, about this appeal:

"At this time of the year, many of our horses and ponies are overwintering in barns while lots of our special care horses and ponies live in smaller groups in well-sheltered paddocks. Unfortunately, with all the recent extreme wet weather, some of our special care paddocks have been totally flooded, leaving them uninhabitable.
We have had to move lots of the horses into other covered accommodation to keep them dry and provided others with lots of extra straw to keep them warm and give them a dry standing area.

To make matters worse, following on from the very dry summer, the cost of straw has risen considerably from around £10 for a large bale to £15.
