Story
Donations would be used for our Bristol City of Sanctuary Transport Fund, a community initiative to provide bus tickets for destitute sanctuary seekers in Bristol. Destitute asylum seekers have lost all their housing and financial support. They are not allowed to work and cannot return to the country they fled.
Bristol is a big city, and many of the important services for refugees are located centrally. Reflecting upon this, the fund has recently been expanded to include vulnerable people, especially women; those who are living on the outskirts of the cityand who may otherwise find it hard to travel into the centre of Bristol.
The provision of bus tickets is an invaluable way of helping those seeking sanctuary in Bristol to reach essential services, such as drop-in sessions, where they can access free advice and support and receive hot meals.
The fund has been set up in conjunction with First Bus Bristol, who have generously offered match funding. The money raised will provide three monthly bus tickets, along with a number of one off tickets as well. This fund is a real way to make a difference to the day-to-day lives of those seeking sanctuary within our city
