Story

Ryans story;

On the 30 of November 2021 he was diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer, an extremely rare cancer called ‘Neuroendocrine Carcinoma’… For someone his age with no history of cancer, the odds of getting this cancer are in the millions.

As you can imagine Ryans family have had their lives turned upside down.

For this type of cancer the outlook does not look promising however those of you that know Ryan will know that he approaches everything with a positive outlook.

That’s the bad news. 😭

Here's the good news, the Gunner community has really lived up to the 'One Regiment' ethos and proved that 'Once a Gunner, Always a Gunner'

As Ryan's close friends and the bigger Royal Artillery family we are going to run a series of events to raise funds for him and his family. These funds will go directly to him and his family and although cannot fix the sadness that they are going through, can hopefully ensure that he, his wife and their young children can enjoy their time together to the fullest.

Over the period of the 2nd to the 4th of March the following events will take place across the globe;

The Royal Artillery Regiments will be conducting a 5 kilometre run finishing at the same time.

Members of 16 Regt RA currently based in the Falklands will be running 5 kilometres.

Soldiers from 32 Regt RA currently serving on Operation NEWCOMBE will be running 5 Kilometres.

In Cyprus on Exercise Athena Rebus members of RSA and 47 Regt will be conducting an arduous physical challenge.

170 (Imjin) Bty, 12 Regiment RA based in Thorney Island will be conducting a 170 kilometre run.

Shane Rossall, a former member of 57 (Bhurtpore) Battery will be conducting a 24 hour 'on the hour every hour' (OHEH) challenge consisting of Rowing 1-5km, Cycling 2-10km and Skiing 3-5km. This will take place 3-4 March to finish at the same time as all other challenges.

Ryans close friends in Larkhill Garrison and at 4/73 Sphinx Bty in Catterick will be taking on the challenge of ‘David Goggins 4/4/48’ which consists of running 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours. This will be run in combats with weighted body armour. During this challenge his friends will be joined by the Army Sergeant Major, Field Army Sergeant Major, Royal Artillery Sergeant Major, Royal Logistics Corps Sergeant Major, Commander 1 Arty Bde and many more over a number of the legs.

The team at Fire Mission (formerly Gunnerfest) have also reached out and are keen to work with us and have Ryans cause as their main charity for their upcoming Artillery Festival later in the year.

All these events will finish at the same time across the globe in a co-ordinated effort from the Royal Artillery, Ryans family and friends.
