Story
We are hosting a charity boxing, bidding and boogying event at the Winter Gardens in Margate in February 2019.
We will raise money for Caring 4 Connor and The Alfie Gough Trust, two local charities that have touched the hearts of many people in Thanet and the surrounding areas .
In 2013, Connor Olsen was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). DMD is a genetic disorder characterised by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness, resulting in progressively worsening mobility which will likely see Connor and other sufferers being restricted to a wheelchair before their mid teens, with a significantly reduced life expectancy. Caring4Connor was created as a platform for family, friends and supporters who want to help Connor, raise awareness and ultimately find a cure for DMD. Connor's story has captured the hearts of many in East Kent and the surrounding areas, with evermore people urging themselves to be active in the campaign to fight this disease. More information on Connor's journey and many fundraising events can be found at www.caring4connor.com
Alfie's story began at only 8 weeks old where his parents noticed a lump in Alfie's groin following nappy rash. After an initial inaccurate diagnosis, Alfie was admitted to Great Ormond Street where he underwent surgery to remove more lumps. Alfie was then began chemotherapy and his parents believed their life could continue. However in late 2009, Alfie was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Alfie underwent 7 more months of treatment however sadly, at 10am on the 29th of July 2010, Alfie lost his battle and passed in the arms of his mum and dad. Since then his parents have continued to raise money to help fund research and treatment for other children with cancer and other serious diseases. More information on Alfie's journey, the charity's vision and more can be found at www.alfiestrust.com
Matt and I (Ryan), both as parents with families of our own have been touched by both stories and would like to help. We also want to punch each other in the face, so what better way to combine our ambitions than a boxing event!
Please help us raise money to cover costs, allowing proceeds from the evening to be donated in their entirety to these fantastic causes.
Thanks!
Ryan and Matt
