Story
The Rotunda ABC was opened in 1974, volunteers assisted by the Lord Mayor Paul Orr built a boxing club for the young in a badly run down, troubled area of North Liverpool. The club affiliated to A.B.A. as very quickly they began to produce champions and help develop numerous youths from the surrounding area.
In 1978 the club produced 2 Olympians to compete at the Moscow Olympics. Constantly throughout its affiliation to the British A.B.A. the club has produced 100 national champions, numerous regional champions, European, Commonwealth and many of these youths have continued their careers to elite level in the professional ranks, several becoming world champions. The club produced the first female entrant in the Olympic games in Natasha Jonas who herself has become a fine role model and ambassador for the club and the city. The 4 Smith brothers from the club have broken every record available to them in boxing, again all great role models fro the sport and city.
The Rotunda A.B.C. has become a hub for boxing and we run several community projects. We have the Rotunda Inclusive Hub which caters for lesser abled youths using sport as a tool in their personal development. We have Women's Turnaround Group, run by the probation service for female ex-offenders, the project has a very positive effect on all the women lives and is attracting national attention. We have classes for education excluded youths, the classes try to help the individual to return to mainstream education. We also have a boxing academy, giving youths career opportunities.
We are holding a "Skipathon" at the clubs headquarters on Sunday 6th August 2017 to raise funds for this seasons participtation.
(Donations would be extremely welcome but if you wish to take part forms are available at the club or call Gerard Starkey (club secretary) on 07804 047691.
