Rory's Medical Diagnosis

On November 27th, Rory Duff was admitted to the ICU at the Royal United Hospital (RUH) in Bath, suffering from acute renal failure caused by advanced stage 4 prostate cancer. He underwent an emergency nephrostomy procedure and was placed on dialysis, which resulted in a total of six blood transfusions and five days in ICU. We were initially told to prepare for the worst and that his kidney would fail. He was admitted to ICU with a kidney function eGFR of 4 and creatinine levels over 1000. To our amazement, the work of the surgeons and the support of hundreds of people coming together in group meditation and holding him in their prayers, his kidney function began to improve.

Rory has a history of kidney issues, having had half of his left kidney removed in his twenties. This kidney is now necrotic and no longer functioning, but we are closely monitoring the recovery of his right kidney. Unfortunately, as the NHS considers his cancer incurable at this stage, we are seeking alternative testing and treatments globally to give him the best possible chance in this battle to beat cancer and to continue his work / research which has brought passion to his life and to thousands more around the world.

Our next steps involve extensive blood work to identify the most effective therapies for his cancer, followed by consultations with private oncologists and holistic/integrative doctors. These treatments will continue alongside ongoing blood monitoring to track his progress.

Rory spent twelve days in the RUH and is now receiving respite care at a specialized facility that helps patients recover after surgery, preparing them to return home to their loved ones. Remarkably, on day 12, he was able to stand with assistance, and today, he walked six feet with support. While the journey ahead will be challenging, we are hopeful that by Christmas Eve, he will be back home and walking unaided.

This ordeal has placed an immense physical, emotional, and financial strain on our family. To give my Dad the best chance at recovery and fighting this cancer, I am reaching out for support.

What the Funds Will Be Used For

The funds raised will help cover Rory’s ongoing testing, treatment, and recovery costs. Specifically, this includes:

Medical Treatments: Ongoing therapies, medications, and devices to treat his metastatic cancer, strengthen his immune system, boost his red blood cell count, and reduce the strain on his kidneys. In the past 6 months there have been some exciting advancements in treating secondary cancer and we have spent extensive time researching these treatments to use his protocol.

Testing and Monitoring: Comprehensive blood testing and regular monitoring of key health markers such as PSA, Hemoglobin, and eGFR levels.

Consultations with Private Oncologists and Holistic/Integrative Therapists: Expert consultations to determine the most effective treatments and therapies for Rory’s condition.

Rehabilitation Assistance: Due to his significant health decline over the past eight weeks and extended hospitalisation, Rory has lost much of his strength. He is currently receiving two weeks of respite care to regain independence and strength, enabling him to return home, continue his fight against cancer, and rebuild his health.
