Story

We are trying to raise money to go towards free heart screenings, provided by Cardiac Risk in the Young, at my local secondary school. This means people with underlying, non obvious, possibly life threatening heart conditions will be flagged out and receive the treatment they need, instead of intervention being at a point of crisis, or when it's too late. This is something I feel personal about as I was someone who was found to have an underlying anomalous back in September 2018. While I was lucky enough to not have anything too major, I still receive ongoing support from CRY and this has highlighted how important these screenings are and how it really can be anyone; doesn't matter how active, how fit, how unsuspecting someone is, it can still be absolutely anyone.

As I said I was lucky enough to not need urgent intervention or treatment, so me and my family saw it fit to try raise money in some way, and this is how we've chosen to do it. Later this summer, me and my dad will be attempting to climb a 14,000ft mountain in Colorado, something far more extreme than anything we've tried before. We are aiming to raise £1000, as that funds 20 screenings. that means roughly 1 person will be found with an unbeknown heart condition, and that hopefully means that is one life saved. So is £1000 a lot of money to pay for one life? It doesn't have to be a lot of money you chose to donate, because however little it is it goes towards saving that one person, and I think that's something worth paying any amount for.

- The peak we hope to climb. Pikes Peak, the Rocky Mountains, Colorado.

Key points for consideration:

- ALL money raised will be going to Hope Valley College to help them fund for free CRY screenings

- WE MAY NOT MAKE IT TO THE TOP. While our aim is well 100% be to reach the top, we have never experienced oxygen deficit and altitude differences like this before, neither have we experienced something of this incline or elevation or sheer scale before. so should problems arise, for safety reasons and time constraints (due to weather changes on the mountain) we might have to forfeit the Peak.
