Story
The Swaziland trip I'm departing on with school this October half term is an exciting opportunity to get involved in a project that has been helping schools in Swaziland for many years. In past years Bedales have helped 7 schools in Swaziland and are planning to work with a different school this year to install water, provide solar power for the water supply and help develop an agriculture department within a school.
On this trip we will be digging a trench for water pipes, connecting to a newly installed solar powered water pump lifting water from 45 meters underground through a borehole – dug with the money I, and my fellow students, are raising at the moment.
This trip allows us students to get to know local people in Swaziland, get a glimpse into life at a rural Swazi school and work with the local community of the school.

Why Swaziland?
• Over 60% of people living in poverty (less than £2 a day)
• 27% population HIV positive
• Over a third of people in rural Swaziland do not have access to improved water source
• Almost half of under 18 year olds are orphans
• Subsistence farming and agriculture make up most of the economy
What is the Bedales Swaziland Project all about?
- Project has evolved over the past ten years
- Helped 8 rural primary schools, each enrolling approx. 400 pupils
- Installed water using solar powered pumps and other facilities
How has this helped?
- Drinking water available at the schools all year round, including in the dry season
- More water helps to provide school meals
- Water for irrigation to help develop agriculture departments
- Food from the agriculture departments go on to feed the school pupils
I'm hoping to raise £500 by 12th October to pay for the equipment to help bring this school fresh, clean water daily. All donations are welcome, big or small.
Thank you !!!!!
