Iʼve raised £705 to buy a wheelchair access carriage for the Fancott Miniature Railway to give wheelchair users the opportunity to enjoy the railway.

    Story

The Fancott Miniature Railway runs in the garden of the Fancott public house just outside Toddington. It is run by volunteers and any money raised is used for the upkeep and improvement of the railway and also, but more importantly, to offer free rides to community groups. We have worked with the children, families and helpers at Keech Cottage for several years and this year they have a regular Wednesday booking to ride on the railway. Having spoken to the support staff they have said that many more children would be able enjoy the railway as a recreational activity if we had a wheelchair accessible carriage. We are also actively working with several other special schools, scout and disability groups to enable them to use the railway as an educational or recreational activity.

On our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/FancottMiniatureRailway) we recently carried out a survey regarding people's opinion regarding the purchase of the carriage. The survey reached over 6500 people and we received many messages of support and promises of donations. As a result of the Facebook post a gentleman, who is running an extreme marathon, has offered to donate his sponsorship money to us, so many thanks to him.

We have obtained a quotation from the manufacturer and the carriage is £6400 including delivery. The railway has set aside £1000 and is holding several fundraising events this year to put further funds towards the carriage.

So we have started the ball rolling but any additional donations would be gratefully received.

You can visit our Facebook page as above or our website https://www.fancottrailway.co.uk

    Thanks

Hi all our Just Giving page seems to have come to a stop but funds from our Halloween event takings, a donation from Ampthill Lions and also the sale of some redundant railway equipment. This has taken the total to around £3800. We have been promised the sponsorship money raised by Gerald Carr and Suzie Gittus who took part in a Wolf Run and the Thames Marathon respectively. This should give us enough to buy the carriage, but it doesn't finish there we need to fund a container, points and groundwork in order to store the carriage safely. Thanks

Hello supporters. We are just under half way to our target on this page (47%) and with collections at the railway, our two fundraising events, donations from Luton and Ampthill Lions we have a total of nearly £3000. We still have a far way to go but we have the spooky Halloween evening and our Santa trains to look forward to before the end of the year, see our Facebook page details. You continued support for our fund raising is still required for not only the carriage, but also an additional secure storage container in which to keep it. Thanks

Just to start off with a big thank you to everyone who has donated to our fundraiser. Donations for the two events we have held so far, public donations and donations to this Just Giving page have got us to just under £3000 in about 6 weeks which is a fantastic effort. We still have our spooky Halloween evening trains and our Santa Specials, all the details for those are on our Facebook page and you support would be great. Hope to see you soon and watch this space for updates. Thank you all the Fancott Miniature Railway

It was lovely to be on one of your trains last week for the first time, so I hope this donation helps to get other people on board as well :)
