Story
The inspiration for wanting to do more and help our Regular and Reservist, serving and retired and their dependants came to me on the Royal Logistic Corps (RLC) annual Regimental Sergeant Majors (RSM) Cadre in 2020. We conducted a case study exercise, reviewing over 70 files of serving and retired RLC personnel who had applied to the RLC Association for financial support.
Having read through several files it became shockingly clear just how many serving or retired personnel were struggling to keep their heads above water and provide support to their families. Some of the very young families lived on less than £90 a week and housed in accommodation with no carpets, blinds or the basic utilities required to support a household. I can only imagine these situations have worsened throughout the current pandemic, and their living conditions are on the brink of despair.
Regardless of how many years’ service they served, they were all a part of the RLC family at one time or another, and therefore, I honestly believe we all have spare capacity to give a little and support them in their desperate times of need. If we can make a difference to just a small percentage of those struggling, then I view that as a success story.
In my efforts to do more, I am taking on the gruelling challenge of running 5 miles a day for 183 consecutive days (6 months), covering a total distance of 915 miles from 1 Apr – 30 Sep 2021. To give you a feel and put the distance into context, I will be running from ‘Lands End to John O’Groats’ and 41 miles extra.
All monies raised throughout this challenge will be in support of our RLC Association. All donations no matter how small will be extremely appreciated.
A gentle reminder of ‘What’ and ‘How’ our Association supports everyone;
The RLC Association is the centre of the Corps family, preserving our heritage, promoting comradeship, providing opportunities and support.
The purpose of The RLC Association is to promote and maintain the Corps identity through the encouragement of its membership, Regular and Reservist, serving and retired and their dependants.
This includes preserving a sense of pride in our heritage “in both The RLC and its Forming Corps” promoting comradeship and fraternity, providing opportunities for sport and in creating an ethos of benevolence for those in need.
