Story
Ride for Clare
Help beat CANCER
you've just got to get on with it
Clare passed away on the 16th December 2018 only four weeks after being diagnosed with Cancer, she was only 46. A cherished mum to Islay(17) and Campbell(13) and a loving wife to me (Vince). Clare was nursed at home for the last three weeks of her life before passing away. Lochaber District Nurses worked tirelessly to ensure that Clare was made as comfortable as possible over this time, with a limited supply of palliative care equipment they done the very best they could and always went that extra mile to help. By raising at least £5000 for Lochaber District Nurses would enable extra palliative care equipment to be purchased/replaced and will ensure the excellent service that the team provides to the Lochaber community continues for many years to come.
It is now our turn to go that extra mile! Myself and Campbell have a passion for Mountain Biking and Clare was a Mountain Biking mum and wife who would wash our muddy kit, feed us, put up with late nights in the workshop fixing bikes and she did not mind if we said 'we're heading off for a couple of days on the bikes', Clare had an attitude of 'you've just got to get on with it'. To raise our target we have set ourselves a number biking challenges throughout 2019, where friends and family will join us for some of these epic challenges.
Cycle The Great Glen Way, 16th February Fort William to Inverness, 17th February Inverness to Fort William, 140 miles.
6 Days before The 6 Days - 29th April - 11 May - Cycle 4 days of the Scottish Six Days Trial Route, a mixture of Mountain Bike and Road Bike, total distance of 275 miles across arduous terrain. Compete in the Pre65 Scottish 2 Day Trial. On completion of this first grueling 6 days on Mountain, Road and old Trials bike, I will then have 1 days rest before compete in the Scottish Six Days Trial, a physically demanding event with up to 100 miles covered in a single day across some of Scotland's toughest terrain on a Trials bike.
Megavalanche - 8th to 14th July - Mountain Bike endurance race which starts high in the mountains at Alpe d'Huez France.
Channel to the Med Cycle - 6th to 15th September - This challenge is a 1000 mile road cycle through France, starting at the Channel Tunnel and finishing at Bezier in South France, this finish point is poignant as it is where we spent our last family holiday together.
Sri Lanka Cycle - 4th to 15th October - This challenge is a cycle through Sri Lanka's Tea plantations, dense forests and finishing at the golden beaches of Tangalle, total 430 km on track and trail with Mountain Bike.
The Finale - Sunday 27th December - 'The Clare Mackintosh Memorial Race' this will be the second running of this event which takes place close to the family home and around many of the trails where Clare would walk our dog, a 10 mile Mountain Bike Cross Country race run in memory of Clare.
Other events will be added throughout the year when entries are confirmed, this page will be updated regularly.
January 2020 all funds raised will be donated to Lochaber District Nurses.
