Story
*** UPDATE 20/11: a huge thank you to everyone who has helped us reach our target to fund the service this winter. Richmond Soup Kitchen opened on 1st November with take-up exceeding that of last year at this point in the season. We will leave this Just Giving page active and gratefully welcome further donations, any excess funds from this season will be carried forward to the next. ***
Richmond Soup Kitchen is a free takeaway meal service operating Wednesdays and Thursdays over the winter months from St John the Divine Church in Richmond-Upon-Thames. The service is open to anyone in need and is welcoming to all - no questions asked.
Last winter volunteers served over 1,500 hot meals plus fruit, homemade cakes and hot drinks, while also providing a friendly touchpoint for vulnerable individuals, creating a weekly sense of community over what can be a particularly difficult season for those in need.
In terms of people power, the soup kitchen is well supported by a dedicated network of volunteers. However, the increasing costs of ingredients and materials mean our running costs are projected to be £270 per week for the 2023-2024 winter season, totally £7,000 for the 26-week run.
We currently have around £3,000 of generous donations in place to keep the the service running for the first half the season, so we are now gratefully seeking donations to fund the second half of the season. Thank you in advance for any donations and if you would like to contact us for more information or regarding volunteering please do so via richmondsoupkitchen@gmail.com.
