    Story

In last week's edition of Stylist magazine, I read an article in which young girls from around the world explained how they are missing school every month because they cannot afford sanitary towels to use during the day.

Click here to read the article by Hanna Keegan in Stylist Mag

18 year old Grace from Kenya spoke about how she does not go to school when she is on her period. She spoke of the important days and tests that she missed as a result of this. Grace also shared her knowledge that her friends have had to turn to prostitution to make money to afford items like sanitary towels.

Simi, also 18 but from India free bleeds into her clothes because she cannot afford pads. If anyone has leaked into their clothes before, they will know how embarrassing and uncomfortable this can be, let alone free bleeding into your clothes for the whole duration of your period.

I was really hurt by this article because when i was younger and my period had started i would just head to the closet in my house filled with hair and body products and pull out a fresh pack of pads, restocked by my mum. Now I just buy them in surplus because, with all thanks to God, I am able to.

My heart then turns to the young girls of Nigeria, who are no doubt experiencing the same thing as Grace and Simi. I need to do something about this. I don't see how I can want better for my people but not do anything to help them.

As a temporary measure I am heading to Nigeria to provide secondary school girls with disposable pads. In the hopes that for the girls that I can reach, they can attend school next month. I am also putting together little care packages with sweets and nail polish because your time of the month can make you feel so low and a bit of pampering one evening can go a long way! All of this has come from our own money and our own supplies. However, this is not a long term measure. Providing disposable pads will solve the problem for a month or two.

This is why I am raising funds to source and manufacture reusable sanitary towels for ALL secondary school girls in Nigeria. Now this is a HUGE goal.

The current population of Nigeria is around 199 Million. You can only imagine how large a project this is but I 100% believe this is possible, with your help.

The goal at the moment is £500 but this will increase as I get my hands on more statistics.

We will account for every penny we will spend from the sums donated. This is the least we can do in exchange for your donations.
